...RESUSPENDED ASH FROM KATMAI-NOVARUPTA EXPECTED OVER SOUTHERN

AND WESTERN KODIAK ISLAND THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT...



Strong northwesterly winds with gusts up to 55 mph have developed

across Shelikof Strait. The wind is resuspending ash from the 

1912 Katmai-Novarupta eruption and transporting the ash across 

Shelikof Strait and southwest Kodiak Island. Resuspended ash will 

will lead to hazy conditions and may also lead to trace amounts of

ash accumulation. The villages of Karluk, Larsen Bay, and Akhiok 

are most likely to be impacted.



Those with respiratory ailments in these areas are encouraged to 

avoid or reduce outdoor activity to avoid inhaling the ash. The 

winds are expected to diminish starting Wednesday evening, which 

should allow any ash to settle out of the air.
