The southwest corner was the hot spot once more with values around 105 degrees. After a wet week, the ample moisture in the eastern two thirds of the state resulted in heat indices of 100 to 105. Thankfully southerly winds were breezy with speeds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts of 35 to 40 mph except in the far northwest corner which had light winds up to 10 mph. Daytime heating helped develop some cloud cover in the eastern portions. Otherwise sunshine abounded. There are minimal weather concerns in the Central Plains this evening. A slight chance for showers and storms exists in far northwest Nebraska. Temperatures are forecast to fall to the upper 50s in western Nebraska to around 80 degrees in eastern Kansas and Oklahoma. Breezy winds should persist through the overnight hours for most locations with speeds of 15 to 25 mph. Minimal cloud cover is anticipated. Another day of summer heat for most of the Central Plains is expected on Monday with western Kansas into the Panhandles having high temperatures from 100 to 105 once more. The remaining locations will range from the mid 80s to mid 90s. Those in the east may not have the temperatures near 100, but the persistent moisture results in heat indices of 100 to 105 for another day. At least the breezy trend should continue for all but central Nebraska which will have winds closer to 10 mph. Daytime heating could help develop scattered afternoon clouds but sunshine will be plentiful. $$
