916 AGUS74 KWCO 291155 HMDNWC National Hydrologic Discussion - EXPERIMENTAL NWS National Water Center - Tuscaloosa AL 700 AM CDT MON JUN 29 2026 .Update... The Ohio and Tennessee Valley and the North Carolina Limited Flood Threat areas were removed from the FHO as the heavy rainfall has moved on. While there remains some isolated river flooding in the Ohio Valley, there are only 3 gages in moderate flood or forecast to reach moderate and two of those are currently cresting. With that in mind, we opted to drop the Limited area for the region. A Limited Flood Threat area was added for northern ND as heavy rainfall tonight will increase the threat for isolated flash flooding. Soils are generally on the drier side which will allow for some infiltration capacity and limit excess runoff however, there is the potential for some quick hitting and repeated rounds of rainfall that could overwhelm soils. The NWM SRF is starting to show isolated stream responses across the area for this afternoon and evening suggesting that the area should continue to be monitored. For American Samoa, a Limited Flood Threat area was added to the FHO as a trough moves in Wednesday which may result in heavy rainfall to the islands. No major changes were made to the northern Montana Limited Flood Threat area. //Smith Previous Discussion as follows ...Lingering flood impacts over the Lower Ohio and Tennessee Valleys...Flooding impacts from rainfall and snowmelt are continuing in portions of Northern Montana...Isolated flash and urban flooding over portions of coastal North Carolina... .Lower Ohio and Tennessee Valleys... Rainfall is beginning to taper off over the Lower Ohio and Tennessee Valleys, however flood impacts are expected to linger over the area through early this week as runoff continues to route downstream. Scattered minor to isolated moderate flooding is ongoing and forecast through early this week. Rainfall through the remainder of the week is expected to be very light, thus recessions are expected to be unimpeded. .Northern Montana... The Limited selection over portions of northern MT has been expanded to the west for the afternoon issuance. Locally heavy rainfall, combined with high level snowmelt, will continue to keep small streams elevated with some rises on larger rivers. Precipitation will begin to diminish over the region tonight, with streamflows generally receding unimpeded though the week. .Coastal North Carolina... Isolated flash and urban flooding will remain possible over portions of coastal North Carolina through tonight. Soils through the region are predominately dry, which should help mitigate some hydrologic responses. //Fontenot $$
