Critical fire weather conditions will be possible for most days this week across the mountains, valleys and adjacent plains, with critical fire weather conditions likely to spread farther east across most of the plains by mid to late week. The most volatile conditions can be expected today as winds gust over 50 mph across the mountain areas, and up to 45 mph across the lower elevations. The strongest winds will impact the southern Sangre de Cristo mountains where morning gusts could hit 65 mph, though this will occur before humidities decrease below 9 percent. Peak wind gusts will be decreasing during the afternoon as humidities fall below 9 percent. It will remain dry across most of the district as gusty afternoon winds return each day, though the far eastern plains could see strong to severe thunderstorms on Tuesday.
