791 FXUS65 KVEF 300448 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 847 PM PST Mon Dec 29 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Gusty north winds will continue along the Colorado River Valley today, bringing hazardous boating conditions. * Dry conditions will continue at least through Tuesday, but renewed rain chances arrive New Year's Eve onward. && .DISCUSSION...through the weekend. Quiet conditions dominate the region this afternoon though breezy north winds continue. These winds are most notable near Lake Mohave and Laughlin, where the winds have been gusting in the 45-50 mph range as winds funnel down the river valley. Winds will gradually subside tonight as pressure gradients ease. Otherwise, another cool night is in store - especially for locations where the winds drop off quickly. Barstow-Daggett dropped to 32 this morning, marking their first freeze of the winter season, and parts of the Las Vegas Valley dropped into the 30s. Similar low temperatures are expected again tonight, though some increasing cirrus will begin moving in late tonight which may moderate the temperature curve slightly. On Tuesday, high clouds will begin to stream in from the south ahead of a low pressure system lurking off the Baja Coast. This system is on track to spread rain chances into the Mojave Desert Wednesday that will continue into New Years Day as a shortwave lifts into the Great Basin. While moisture will be rather abundant given the subtropical origin, dynamics will be fairly weak. This lends to the likelihood of generally light rainfall expectations, but enough rain to dampen NYE festivities and result in some wet roadways. Snow levels will be quite high, generally above 9500 feet areawide on Wednesday, and only dropping very slightly on Thursday. This will limit any snowfall impacts to all but the highest peaks in the forecast area. Additional troughing along the West Coast will keep precip chances going Friday and into the weekend, mainly for the Sierra and southern Great Basin. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Light winds overnight night will become north-northeast on Tuesday, but are expected to remain at or below 8KT.
