692 FXUS63 KUNR 301706 AFDUNR Area Forecast Discussion For Western SD and Northeastern WY National Weather Service Rapid City SD 1006 AM MST Tue Dec 30 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - Mild and dry conditions expected through the period. && .UPDATE... Issued at 913 AM MST Tue Dec 30 2025 With well mixed fast northwest flow, and morning cloud cover exiting to the southeast, should see a mild and mostly sunny day for most areas. With good mixing and mostly sunny conditions, have bumped high temps up a couple of degrees, and bumped wind speeds up just a few mph - especially across the SD plains. && .DISCUSSION...(Today Through Monday) Issued at 153 AM MST Tue Dec 30 2025 Upper ridge sits over the far western CONUS with northwest flow over the forecast area this morning. 09Z surface analysis shows high pressure over Wyoming, while a warm frontal boundary sits over North Dakota. Currently Winds are light and variable with temperatures in the 20s and low 30s. Expect warmer temperatures today as upper ridge has shifted slightly eastward, with highs in the 40s to low 50s. A few weak disturbances ride down the ridge over the next couple of days, however models keep them to the east and north of us, limiting any precipitation chances. Could see some temperature fluctuations and breezy winds at times given the proximity to these disturbances. In general, expect temperatures to be above normal over the forecast area as we sit under the ridge through the week, however with the baroclinic zone being so close to the forecast area, any shift could cause parts of the CWA (mainly northwest to central SD) to be cooler than the rest of the CWA. Long range models keep the area dry through the week. && .AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS Through 18Z Wednesday) Issued At 1006 AM MST Tue Dec 30 2025 VFR conditions are expected through the period. && .UNR WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
