387 FXUS65 KTWC 300835 AFDTWC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tucson AZ 135 AM MST Tue Dec 30 2025 .SYNOPSIS...Gusty east to southeast winds for portions of southeast Arizona through Tuesday. A disturbance is expected to move into the region and a bring chances for light-to- moderate valley rain and very high elevation snow showers late New Years Eve into New Years Day. Above normal high temperature for most of the upcoming week. && .DISCUSSION... High clouds continue to blanket the region. Gusty east winds will continue overnight through tomorrow afternoon. Today, ridging will build from the southeast ahead of our next weather disturbance. Temperatures will raise 3 to 6 degrees from yesterday pushing high temperatures in the low 60s out east and up into the mid 70s out west. Expect clouds to linger around for much if not all of the day. New Years Eve (Wednesday) our next weather disturbance, a fairly low amplitude short wave trough will push onshore from the northern Baja coast into southern California then up through northern Arizona. This system will bring chances for precipitation down here in southeastern Arizona starting in the afternoon Wednesday through early Friday morning. Rainfall totals are forecast to be between 0.05" to 0.1" for areas west and south of Tucson and between 0.15" to 0.3" from Tucson north and northeast. Isolated areas may see over 0.5" of rainfall. Snow level is very high with this system, greater than 10k ft Wednesday afternon gradually lowering to greater than 9k ft by Thursday night. Due to such high snow levels, forecast snow totals for this event are minimal. New Years Eve night temperatures will be in the mid 50s to low 60s with a 50-70% chance for rain. Those celebrating New Years Eve outdoors are encouraged to wear cool temperature, rain weather clothing and carry an umbrella. Take caution when driving during as roads may be slick and some ponding may occur. Beginning Friday, the weak trough that brought rain showers to us will fade into a building ridge. The ridge will bring dry conditions and raise temperatures back into the 70s by Saturday. Dry conditions with high temperatures in the 70s will persist through day 7 (January 5). && .AVIATION...Valid through 31/12Z. SCT-FEW clouds AOA 15-20k ft AGL through the forecast period. SFC winds ELY/SELY 10-20 kts with gusts to 25-35 kts. Aft 31/01Z SFC winds weaken to 5-10 kts gusting 15-20 kts. Aviation discussion not updated for TAF amendments. && .FIRE WEATHER...Gusty east winds are expected to continue for most of the area through the afternoon. 20-foot winds will be east to southeast 15-20 mph with gusts 30-40 mph. Otherwise, a weather system will bring a good chance of valley rain and high elevation (generally above 10k ft) snow showers New Years Eve into New Years Day. Minimum relative humidity values will remain elevated through the upcoming week, ranging from 35-45 percent in the valleys and 50-70 percent in the mountains.
