331 FXUS64 KSJT 282258 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 558 PM CDT Sun Jun 28 2026 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - Gusty south winds will continue through the first half of this week. - Seasonably hot and dry conditions will continue through this week. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Monday) Issued at 144 PM CDT Sun Jun 28 2026 Conditions today are very similar to yesterday with sunny skies and gusty south winds. Gusts are in the 35-40 mph range across the Big Country, 30-35 in our central counties, and mostly 25-30 mph in our southern counties along I-20. Winds will decrease to some extent to night but remain breezy overnight for much of our area. Some low cloud development is expected again late tonight and early Monday morning over the southern third of our area. Lows tonight will be in the lower to mid 70s in our southern counties, mid 70s Concho Valley and mid to upper 70s in the Big Country. Highs Monday will be in the mid to upper 90s in our southern and east-central (Heartland) counties, upper 90s to 101 in the Concho Valley, and upper 90s to 103 in the Big Country. With a large scale upper trough over the western CONUS, a downstream upper level ridge will build from the lower Mississippi Valley into the lower Ohio Valley. On the western periphery of this ridge, an embedded disturbance will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms late Monday afternoon through late evening to portions of west and southwest Texas. Slight chance (20 percent) PoPs extend as far east as western Crockett County. && .LONG TERM... (Monday night through next Sunday) Issued at 144 PM CDT Sun Jun 28 2026 Seasonably hot and dry conditions are expected to prevail this week. An expansive and strong upper level high will be established over much of the the eastern U.S. Tuesday into the late part of the week. An upper trough will be over the western CONUS, but will eventually be weakening with a remnant shortwave progged to enter the northern and central Plains on Saturday. The aforementioned eastern CONUS ridge will shift south and be centered approximately over the North Carolina/South Carolina coast Saturday. A second ridge will also develop and build over the southwestern U.S. and northwestern Mexico. Seasonably hot temperatures will continue with little day-to-day change through Thursday. Could have an uptick in temperatures Friday and Saturday, when a slight strengthening in the 850mb thermal ridge is progged. Surface pressure gradient is forecast to weaken slightly for the latter half of next week, so by that time it will not be as breezy in our area. Looking ahead to the Fourth of July holiday weekend, continuing to see some indications in the medium range models for the possibility of a weakness to develop in the height field aloft (perhaps a shear axis) over Texas. This may allow for some possibility of a few showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the late afternoon and evening hours Sunday. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 543 PM CDT Sun Jun 28 2026 With a largely unchanging pattern will use todays timing and conditions as the main start point for tonight and tomorrows. MVFR cigs will spread back into at least the southern terminals overnight into Monday morning, before dissipating by mid morning. May be able to spread as far north as KSJT but if it does, it should be patchy and short lived. Otherwise, breezy conditions will prevail with gusts above 25 kts at many locations. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
