- Warming trend and mostly dry weather follows the cold start 

  to the week. Increasing confidence in highs to be near to 

  above normal, ranging from the upper 40s to lower 60s into the

  end of the week and the coming weekend.

Surface high pressure over the Gulf Coast, Upper level ridging 

over the west coast and northwesterly flow aloft over the Plains

are all working together to bring mild and quiet weather to the

Ozarks. The overall pattern today and into Thursday looks as 

though with will change little with a slow warning trend as 

winds from the west to southwest allow for warming to occur. 



The pattern will also allow for mostly sunny skies each day 

with highs this today and Thursday in the middle 40s to middle 

50s. 



As the region brings in the New Year tonight, slightly warmer

weather, in the middle 20s to lower 30s, will occur. This is 5 

to 10 degrees warmer than the past two night across the area.

The ridge over the west coast will begin to shift slowly east 

as upper level energy from the Pacific impacts the western side 

of the ridge. This is expected to begin to break down and move 

the ridge east into the end of the week and the coming weekend.



As some of the energy moves up and over the ridge, a surface low

will develop and slide across the southern plains and south of 

the Ozarks. Models have trended this system south over the past 

few runs and the Ozarks look like it will remain dry into 

Friday night and Saturday. 

 

Surface high pressure will build in again for the weekend as

upper level energy continue to move the ridge east and flatten

it. Cold air advection will stick around for Saturday with 

highs in the upper 40s. Then, highs return to the 50s and 60s 

for the end of the weekend into the start of next week the the

ridge moves over the Central Plains. Rain chances are <10% for 

the entire long term period.

A quiet weather pattern and dry air will allow for VFR flight

conditions through the forecast period. Surface winds will be

westerly from 5 to 10 mph with only a few high clouds moving
