  again today.

.DISCUSSION...



Very cold mornings, near seasonal afternoon highs, valley

inversions, and Sierra freezing fog remain the name of the game

today. As cloud cover increases through today, this may inhibit

the potential for freezing fog for Sierra valleys Wednesday

morning. 



That increasing cloud cover originates from the low off the coast

of Baja California, which is steadily beginning its trek

northward. This low will bring a handful of things, including a 

strengthened warming trend through at least Friday, with 

temperatures almost 10 degrees above normal (mid 50s for valleys 

and mid 40s for Sierra communities). The low will also bring 

increased precip chances, with precip moving in as early as 

daybreak on New Years Day, per latest CAM guidance. Snow levels 

will be high; over 9 kft. This will bring the threat for rain on 

snow. In NE CA, conditions will be conducive to flooding concerns,

primarily near and along the Susan River. In W NV, the best 

chances for spillover rain will be Wednesday. 



Showers will linger through Thursday and Friday with the second

big push of moisture late Friday into Saturday. However, this

system is more AR-y in nature. Snow levels will be much lower (5-6

kft) and there will be gusty winds, as well (mostly Friday and

Saturday). Precip chances continue through at least the beginning

of next week, though confidence remains low.

VFR conditions prevail for much of the region through Wednesday

with light winds. The only exception will be FZFG for KTRK until

about 18Z this morning. Additionally, morning valley inversions 

may produce slantwise visibility concerns, primarily for Sierra 

Front terminals.
