.DISCUSSION...

The latest satellite imageries show the trough remaining over the

area as it produces numerous to widesepread showers, heavy at

times throughout the day. These conditions are expected to remain

over the islands tonight. However, a strong high pressure system 

to the south will continue to generate moderate to fresh south-

southeast winds throughout the forecast period (7 days). With

these winds in place, the latest model run shows the trough

slightly migrating north-northeast on Tuesday. Nevertheless, the

trough is expected to still remain close to the islands, holding

flash flooding conditions over the area. 



By late Wednesday into Thursday, the trough is expected to move

over the islands again as it deepens and become active, producing

more widespread showers. With the winds and showers in place,

flash flooding conditions will remain for the rest of the week.

Thus, expect numerous to widespread showers with moderate to fresh

south-southeast winds for this forecast period. A flood watch is

now in effect for all islands of American Samoa.

Rough and choppy conditions remain across the coastal waters as

sustained moderate to fresh south winds moves over the area. These

conditions are expected to remain for the rest of the forecast

period (5 days). Although seas are around 6 to 8 feet as shown on

the data from the PacIOOS buoys, the strong winds are keeping seas

and surfs elevated. Hence, the advisories for small crafts and

high surfs are in effect. Additionally, the latest model data

shows a large swell from the south, arriving on Tuesday night

through the end of the week, peaking on Wednesday and Wednesday

night. This swell will enhance higher seas and surfs, and generate

strong rip currents for the latter part of the forecast period.
