.Discussion...

A trough edging in from the northeast will bring an uptick in 

showers tonight through the weekend. Meanwhile, a strong high 

pressure system building near New Zealand will continue to 

produce strong south to southeast trade winds. Model guidance 

shows the two features oscillating back and forth over the 

territory throughout the week, bringing breezy conditions and wet

weather.



Latest satellite data show some surface rain already over the 

Manu'a islands, tracking toward Tutuila. Widespread showers and 

southeast to south winds of 15 to 25 mph with higher gusts will 

remain through the forecast period. Heavier rain is possible 

Monday through Tuesday, with numerous showers persisting through 

the rest of the week due to the lingering trough. The strength of

the high pressure system will determine the placement of the

trough. However, by July 4, the trough is expected to move 

farther north and away from the territory.

Elevated wave heights are currently observed at the PacIOOS buoys,

reaching up to 8 feet, with peak periods up to 13 seconds from a 

south swell. The combination of trade winds and swell prompted a

high surf advisory this morning. Hazardous ocean conditions will 

persist through the forecast period as trade winds and swell 

continue across the region. Surf may reach warning criteria by

midweek.
