Updated at 1158 AM CDT Mon Jun 29 2026 - Dangerous heat and humidity today through late this week (and possibly into the weekend). An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through Thursday for much of the area. - High temperatures in the mid to upper 90s across the warning area, with afternoon heat index values as hot as 112. Overnight lows will also remain uncomfortably warm, only falling into the mid to upper 70s most areas. - Low chances for rain and storms will emerge later in the week. && .SHORT TERM... (Rest of today through Tuesday) Issued at 1158 AM CDT Mon Jun 29 2026 An upper level ridge has centered itself over Middle TN and will amplify over the next few days. This will bring an extended period of dangerously hot conditions at least through Friday. Highs today will reach the mid to upper 90s for much of the area. Once you factor in dew points in the low to mid 70s it will feel as warm as 108 this afternoon. Lows tonight will remain warm only falling into the mid to upper 70s, this will limit relief from the heat especially to those that do not have air conditioning. As the heat lingers and builds over the area we will see extreme heat risk Tuesday lasting through the remainder of the week. Extreme Heat Risk means that there is rare and or long duration extreme heat with little to no overnight relief affecting anyone without cooling/hydration as well as health systems, industries, and infrastructure. Highs Tuesday will push into the mid to upper 90s and it will remain very humid pushing afternoon heat index values as hot as 108. && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday Night through next Monday) Issued at 1158 AM CDT Mon Jun 29 2026 The upper level ridge will be centered over Middle TN on Wednesday and this will likely be the peak of the heat wave with highs in the mid 90s to right around 100. Afternoon heat index values will get as warm as 112. Overnight lows Tuesday night through Wednesday night will be very warm in the mid to upper 70s with some areas possibly staying in the lower 80s. The upper level ridge will start to drift to the east mid to late week and will slowly start to flatten. The cooling will be very limited with highs staying in the mid to upper 90s through Friday and very hot heat index values. It looks like we will see some cooling over the July 4th weekend but not a ton, it will still be very hot and you should plan for the heat if you have outdoor plans. Highs over the weekend will remain in the low to mid 90s with heat index values as warm as 107. Additional cooling is expected Monday as a short wave trough pushes into the Great Lakes. This will continue to flatten the ridge and drop our highs back into the upper 80s to lower 90s. As the ridge pushes east late week we will see low chances for popup showers and thunderstorms mainly during the afternoons and early evenings. These low thunderstorm chances look to continue into the holiday weekend. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 620 AM CDT Mon Jun 29 2026 Mainly VFR conditions with southerly winds.
