Max afternoon apparent temperatures or the heat index will range from 100 to 107 degrees daily. - A plume of Saharan dust will move over the area late tonight through Tuesday allowing for hazy skies with vivid sunrises and sunsets. - An upper level ridge will break down by mid week allowing a weakness to develop that will bring back a daily chance for diurnal showers and thunderstorms. && .DISCUSSION... (This evening through next Saturday) Issued at 1215 PM CDT Sun Jun 28 2026 High pressure at the surface and aloft extends from the northern gulf coast into the Atlantic. Hot and dry weather is resulting from this setup. Temperature averages are running a few degrees above climo normals and may increase another degree or two into Tuesday which may push interior areas to near heat adv criteria. Precip coverage, which generally is scattered in the afternoon, is also running below normal. The ridge will remain in place through Tuesday while a Saharan dust plume advects across the region. Hot, dry, and hazy conditions are anticipated. The ridge will shift northeast into mid week and become centered roughly over the Ohio River Valley. While the ridge aloft weakens locally, moisture will be driven west around the base of the ridge. This will increase the chance of diurnal convection for the second half of the week, and also decrease temperatures a couple degrees. && .AVIATION...
