943 FXUS64 KLCH 310609 AFDLCH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 1209 AM CST Wed Dec 31 2025 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE, FIRE WEATHER... .KEY MESSAGES... - High pressure associated with a cold and dry Canadian air mass will settle over the region through today with a light freeze and areas of frost tonight into Wednesday morning. - High pressure will move off to the east by New Years Eve night allowing for a moderation in temperatures. - Low pressure forming over the southern plains on Friday will bring strong and gusty southerly winds during Friday and push a weak Pacific front through with a small chance for showers. - Temperatures expected to be above normal as we head into the weekend and early next week. && .SHORT TERM... (Today through Friday night) Issued at 1201 AM CST Wed Dec 31 2025 Currently the high pressure is centered over TX/LA with light and variable to calm winds across the CWA. Skies are clear, allowing for effective radiational cooling. As of 12 AM, temperatures are in the upper 20s to upper 30s, and we could see temperatures drop into the mid 20s across parts of CenLA and interior SETX. A light freeze, along with areas of frost, will be possible for a majority of the forecast area, with exception to the coastline. By Wednesday, the surface high will sink further south into the Gulf, allowing winds to become southwesterly to southerly, with increasing moisture and a warming trend ensuing. Wednesday’s highs will reach the 60s, Thursday’s highs will climb into the upper 60s to lower 70s, and Friday’s highs will range from the mid 70s to lower 80s. Other than warming temperatures and increasingly humid conditions, breezy conditions are possible on Friday as a tightened pressure gradient develops between the departing surface high and an incoming system. Sustained winds could exceed 20 MPH, and a Wind Advisory may be needed. However, given the time range, this will bear watching. && .LONG TERM... (Saturday through Wednesday) Issued at 1201 AM CST Wed Dec 31 2025 During the weekend, a weak cold front is expected to move through the area. Isolated showers are not out of the realm of possibility; however, moisture return ahead of the front will be limited. A brief drop in temperatures is expected, with values rebounding quickly as onshore flow resumes and ridging builds aloft. With the exception of slightly cooler temperatures following the weekend frontal passage, temperatures in the long term are expected to run about 10 degrees above average. Overall, a warm and humid first week of the New Year is anticipated. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 1201 AM CST Wed Dec 31 2025 Clear, VFR conditions to prevail over the period. Winds will fall after sundown and will fall to calm overnight. High pressure meanders to the east of the region late tonight with southwest winds set to return after 12z. 11 && .MARINE... Issued at 1201 AM CST Wed Dec 31 2025 Elevated offshore winds and seas will continue to gradually decrease into today as high pressure settles over the region. Onshore winds are expected by Thursday, then increasing and become gusty on Friday as high pressure moves off to the east and low pressure develops over the Southern Plains. Light offshore winds will then return over the weekend as the low pressure system moves off to the east. && .FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 1201 AM CST Wed Dec 31 2025 Cold temperatures are expected overnight with a light freeze and frost expected for a majority of the area.
