015 FXUS64 KLCH 302331 AFDLCH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 531 PM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - High pressure associated with a cold and dry Canadian air mass will settle over the region through Wednesday with a light freeze and areas of frost tonight into Wednesday morning. - High pressure will move off to the east by New Years Eve night allowing for a moderation in temperatures. - Low pressure forming over the southern plains on Friday will bring strong and gusty southerly winds during Friday and push a weak Pacific front through with a small chance for showers. - Temperatures expected to be above normal as we head into the weekend and early next week. && .SHORT TERM... (Today through Thursday night) Issued at 528 PM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 The High pressure system associated with the cold and dry Canadian air mass centered over northeast Texas will continue to build and slide into the forecast area through tonight and Wednesday. This will allow for clear skies and mainly light winds that will set the stage for a very chilly night into early Wednesday morning. A light freeze along with areas of frost are likely for a majority of the forecast area with exception right along the coast. With very light to calm winds, wind chills will be close to actual air temperatures and therefore no cold weather advisory will be needed. The high pressure system will move off to the east during New Year's Eve night that will allow for light southerly winds to return and with that a moderation and warming in temperatures to begin the new year. 07/Rua && .LONG TERM... (Friday through Tuesday) Issued at 528 PM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 Long term looks like a warm period again with above normal temperatures to start off 2026. Some southern stream energy coming from the east Pac will help develop a surface low and weak Pacific front across the Southern Plains into Texas on Friday. 35 to 40 knot low level jet at 85H developing that should make for a breezy day. However, overall moisture return is more of a modified Gulf variety so not that impressive. Therefore, with not impressive moisture amounts and weak low level convergence and upper level dynamics, not expecting a lot of shower activity as this Pacific front moves through late Friday and Friday night. Drier and seasonable conditions behind the Pacific front over the weekend, then another warm up early next week as high pressure moves off the east and low pressure develops over the Plains to provide a fresh southerly flow from the Gulf over the region. 07/Rua && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 528 PM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 Clear, VFR conditions to prevail over the period. Winds will fall after sundown and will fall to calm overnight. High pressure meanders to the east of the region late tonight with southwest winds set to return after 12z. 11 && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
