014 FXUS64 KLCH 301121 AFDLCH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 521 AM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - Gusty northerly winds will continue to subside over land areas overnight and over marine areas on Tuesday morning. - A cold Canadian air mass will settle over the region through Wednesday morning with a light freeze potential for both tonight and tomorrow night. - High pressure will move off to the east by mid week allowing temperatures to moderate. && .SHORT TERM... (Today through Thursday night) Issued at 518 AM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 Currently the high pressure is over the Southern Plains with a modest pressure gradient over the area. While nowhere near advisory criteria, slightly elevated winds and gusts persist across the CWA. This will continue to relax as the high sinks further south. Temperatures will be dependent on the winds and cloud cover. Cloud cover is still eroding, which will allow for further cooling, and we could see temperatures bottoming out in the upper 20s to 30s. Winds are expected to be in the 5 to 15 MPH range which will yield apparent temperatures ranging from the lower to upper 20s. The ranges are just above criteria for a Cold Weather Advisory; therefore, the advisory will not be issued. Tuesday night into Wednesday morning will see the coldest temperatures of this brief cold snap, with lows bottoming out in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Fortunately, wind speeds will decrease considerably as surface high pressure moves into the Southern Plains, resulting in apparent temperatures not far from actual air temperatures. On both nights, portions of the CWA will experience temperatures at or below freezing, and frost will be possible. High temperatures Tuesday will reach the 50s under sunny skies. By Wednesday, the surface high will settle along the Gulf Coast before shifting south over the Gulf waters. Winds will become southerly, with increasing moisture and warming trend ensuing. Wednesdays highs will get into the 60s and Thursdays highs will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s. && .LONG TERM... (Friday through Tuesday) Issued at 518 AM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 The warming trend will continue going into the long term with southerly flow continuing as the surface high pressure over the gulf continues to move eastward. Aloft there will be a weak ridge keeping things on the dry side, however we could see isolated showers across parts of the area as a result of a weak disturbance. During the weekend, a weak cold front is expected to move through the area. We will see a brief drop in temperatures with them rebound quickly as onshore flow resumes and ridging builds aloft. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 518 AM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 VFR conditions will continue through the TAF period. Winds will be from the north around 10 knots with gusts up to 20 knots. Winds will decrease through the day with wind speeds below 10 knots for the rest of the TAF forecast. && .MARINE... Issued at 518 AM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 Strong and gusty north winds will continue to decrease as high pressure settles in. Elevated offshore will continue into Tuesday night before decreasing further. Onshore winds are expected by mid week, then increasing by Friday as low pressure system moves across the southern states. && .FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 518 AM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 A high pressure system bringing drier and colder air will settle in over the region through Wednesday. The strong and gusty north winds will continue to decrease as the high pressure system nears the region. Conditions will be on the dry side with afternoon minimum relative humidity values below 30 percent through Wednesday. A light freeze can be expected for tonight and again on Tuesday night. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
