Issued at 345 AM EST Tue Dec 30 2025 Strong winds have diminished some from yesterday; however, the winds were still gusting up to 25 mph as a deep upper low lingered east of James Bay. Challenges over the next few days will include chances, coverage and snow amounts from clipper type systems or impulses racing southeast into the forecast area. At the onset, a very cold airmass had taken up residence over the Upper Great Lakes. Temperatures will stay much below normal for this time of year. Thermal profiles keep temperatures below 0C the next few days with the indicated precipitation as all snow. The DGZ should stay in the cloud layer and will favor accumulating snow. All considered, snowfall amounts should range from 1 to 3 inches with this first system with the highest amounts near Lake Michigan. The second fast moving systems will bring snow in a 12 hour window from 18Z Wednesday (1 pm EDT) to 06Z Wednesday night (early Wednesday night). Otherwise, the first several days of 2026 will favor temperatures near to below normal with dry weather. The deep low north of the area should persist; however, some upstream ridging from further upstream teleconnections should allow temperatures to rise near to above normal early next week. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 1224 AM EST Tue Dec 30 2025 The main trough that has caused the snow and wintry weather begins to pull eastward away from the area into Tuesday meanwhile surface high pressure pokes into the area. As a result, dry air helps to shut off lake effect snow this morning ahead of a clipper system as winds adjust to be out of the south. Some combination of system and lake enhanced snow is reinvigorated for the end of the TAF period starting later this afternoon at SBN. Underneath the surface inversion, low level moisture still keeps MVFR CIGs and the times of snow may provide times of lowered VISBY. && .IWX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... IN...None. OH...None.
