007 FXUS63 KICT 291908 AFDICT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wichita KS 208 PM CDT Mon Jun 29 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... - Warm temperatures and breezy conditions are forecast through the end of the week. - Isolated rain chances are possible tonight as well as both Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Severe weather is not anticipated. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 206 PM CDT Mon Jun 29 2026 Upper troughing remains over the western CONUS with an upper low over the Northern Plains and an additional low over central California. Upper ridging continues over the Great Lakes and into the Ohio Valley. A surface low is over South Dakota with a cold front draped down through Nebraska, connecting to a surface low in eastern Colorado. An increased pressure gradient remains over eastern KS into the Mississippi Valley, resulting in strong southerly winds in our area. As such, a Wind Advisory remains in effect for central, portions of south-central and southeast KS until 6 PM. High temperatures have rose into the 90s with heat indices between 100-105 across the area with these values continuing into the early evening. As we move into tonight, low temperatures will stay about 10 to 15 degrees above normal for this time of year with lows in the upper 70s. A slight chance (under 15%) of rain is possible tonight mainly in central KS, though anticipating activity to stay north of the area where the front will be. If a shower or storm were to develop in our area, strong gusty winds are likely given DCAPE values greater than 1600 J/kg, though with warmer temperatures aloft, capping concerns should keep chances very low. Additional chances will stay southwest of the area near the dryline. Upper ridging is progged to continue building over the eastern CONUS for much of this forecast period. Upper troughing will remain over the western CONUS with multiple embedded shortwaves ejecting out into the Northern Plains. This may result in slight rain chances in central KS for both Tuesday and Wednesday evening. For Tuesday, a front is progged to move into northern and northwestern KS. Plenty of instability and steep mid-level lapse rates are anticipated, though weak deep layer shear should limit severe weather potential. Again, warmer 700 mb temperatures may limit storm chances farther east in central KS with better chances remaining in western KS. A similar setup is expected for Wednesday keeping storm chances very low. Outside of this slight chances, mostly dry conditions are forecast across the area through Saturday. For temperatures, increasing thickness/heights rising from upper ridging over the eastern CONUS will aid in warmer temperatures persisting throughout the week. High temperatures are forecast for the 90s with highs increasing to around 100 for many locations as we move into next weekend. Heat indices for Tuesday-Thursday are anticipated to be near/below 100 before values increase again on Friday and into the weekend. The warmest indices are expected in southeast KS where dewpoints in the 70s are forecast. For wind, the increased pressure gradient from continued lee troughing will remain through Saturday, keeping breezy southerly winds over the area. && .AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z TUESDAY/... Issued at 1208 PM CDT Mon Jun 29 2026 VFR conditions are expected through this TAF period. Main concern to aviation is breezy southerly winds with sustained winds around 20 kts and gusts exceeding 30 kts. Gusts should decrease slightly after 00z with low-level wind shear ramping back up again this evening around 03z as the low-level jet strengthens. && .ICT WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
