333 FXUS64 KHUN 310355 AFDHUN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Huntsville AL 955 PM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 ...New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM... .KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 955 PM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 - Wind chills will fall to the low to mid 20s tomorrow morning. - A warming trend will begin tomorrow with highs reaching the upper 40s/lower 50s. - High rain chances for showers with a low chance for a thunderstorm will move into the area late Friday into Saturday. && .NEAR TERM... (Rest of tonight and Wednesday) Issued at 955 PM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 Northwest flow and sfc high pressure centered to our southwest will keep a cool but dry airmass in place tonight as current temps range from the upper 20s to lower 30s. Clear skies and light winds will allow for good radiational cooling overnight bringing lows down into the low to mid 20s. Be sure to bundle up if headed outdoors overnight or in the morning! As the aforementioned sfc high shifts southeast, warm air advection will begin to filter in over the lower MS River Valley and will begin a warming trend into the TN Valley. Winds will back to the southwest and clear skies will allow temps to rise to the upper 40s/lower 50s, bringing temps back closer to seasonal norms. && .SHORT TERM... (Wednesday night through Friday night) Issued at 955 PM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 One more night with sub-freezing temps if forecast for New Years Eve, so be sure to wear multiple warm layers if spending time outdoors especially late Wednesday night into Thursday morning! The overall synoptic pattern will change little through Thursday, with dry weather and temps in the low to mid 50s on New Years Day. The main focus in the short term period will be a shortwave disturbance progged to move through Friday night into Saturday. Overall, not much has changed regarding the forecast for this system as the best thunderstorm dynamics will remain to our south. As a matter of fact, even elevated instability has trended lower and has resulted in low thunderstorm chances for areas in and south of Cullman County. Rainfall amounts still look to average in the 0.5-0.75" range, but some locations could see amounts closer to an inch. Rain should begin to clear the area from west to east by sunrise Saturday morning. && .LONG TERM... (Saturday through Tuesday) Issued at 955 PM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 As the system passes to our south, we could see a few wrap around showers on Saturday, with the greatest coverage east of I-65. As we go through the weekend, we will see sfc high pressure build into the region, but the center of the upper level ridge will be stuck in the Gulf. This will keep us in northwesterly flow aloft and help keep daytime highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s. As the ridge slides eastward early next week, it will provide another round of warmer than normal temps in the lower 60s. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 640 PM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 VFR conditions will persist through the TAF period at both locations with clear skies and winds becoming light. With the dry airmass in place, no fog is expected overnight. && .HUN WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... AL...None. TN...None. && $$ NEAR TERM...25 SHORT TERM....25 LONG TERM....JMS AVIATION...25
