030 FXUS62 KGSP 301737 AFDGSP Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC 1237 PM EST Tue Dec 30 2025 .SYNOPSIS... Near normal temperatures return mid to late week. A low pressure system could bring rain to the area for the weekend before dry and warm conditions return early next week. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... As of 1230 PM EST Tuesday... Key Message #1: Red Flag Warning for Northeast Georgia through 7 PM In collaboration with the Peachtree City NWS Office and the Georgia Forestry Commission, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect for all six of our northeast Georgia counties through 7 PM this evening. Extremely dangerous fire weather conditions are possible. Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. Relative humidity values across northeast Georgia will drop below 25% this afternoon with wind gusts from 15 to 25 mph through this evening. Land managers have expressed concern that excessively dry fuels and another day of critical relative humidity will coincide to produce a favorable fire environment. So, despite forecast winds not quite reaching strict Red Flag conditions, criteria have been waived in support of land manager activities. Key Message #2: Breezy winds combined with low relative humidity each afternoon will lead to low-end fire weather concerns outside of Northeast Georgia Afternoon RH values are likely to fall near or below 25% again tomorrow east of the North Carolina mountains. Wind gusts will range from roughly 15 to 25 mph east of the mountains. This will lead to low-end fire concerns across the forecast area outside the North Carolina mountains. Although wind gusts across the North Carolina mountains will range from 15 to 25 mph across the lower elevations and 20 to 35 mph across the higher elevations, relative humidity values will generally remain above 25% limiting fire weather concerns. A Fire Danger Statement will be needed tomorrow for northeast Georgia but will wait to issue until the current Red Flag Warning expires at 7 PM. A Fire Danger Statement may also be needed across portions of Western North Carolina from the Blue Ridge Escarpment and east but waiting on further collaboration with North Carolina land managers later this afternoon. In collaboration with the Columbia NWS Office and South Carolina land managers, an Increased Fire Danger Statement will not be needed for the South Carolina Upstate tomorrow. Key Message #3: Dry with below normal temperatures sticking around Cyclonic flow remains aloft as the northeastern periphery of surface high pressure extends across the region through the period. This will keep below normal temperatures and dry conditions around. Warmer temperatures can be expected on Wednesday as surface winds turn W/SW. Highs today will end up ~5-10 degrees below normal, tending just below normal Wednesday. Lows tonight will end up ~5-7 degrees below normal despite some increasing cirrus overnight. && .SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/... As of 1058 AM EST Tuesday... Key Message #1: Dry Thursday and Friday with temperatures trending back above normal. A weak system will pass to our north early on Thursday with the only impact being an increase in winds and an increase in highs by a few degrees. Expect further increase in highs on Friday as mid level heights rise slightly. && .LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/... As of 1105 AM EST Tuesday... Key Message #1: A southern stream low pressure system could bring rain to the region on Friday night and Saturday. The guidance remains in agreement that a southern stream low pressure system will move near or south of the area Saturday. They also agree that thermal profiles will be warm enough for only liquid rain, even in the highest elevations. They continue to show run to run differences in timing and amount of rain. The model blend remains the way to go which shows good precip chances and some much needed light rainfall. Key Message #2: Dry with a warming trend Sunday into Monday. High pressure settles over the area Sunday into Monday. This brings a return to dry conditions and temps rising to nearly 10 degrees above normal by Monday. && .AVIATION /18Z TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/... At KCLT and elsewhere: Dry and VFR through the 18Z TAF period. Gusty winds will continue at KGSP tapering off later this afternoon. Gusty winds will linger longer at KAVL, through late this evening, tapering off overnight. Wind direction will be mainly W/NW east of the mountains through daybreak Wednesday before toggling more WSW/SW. Winds will remain NW at KAVL through the period. Periodic VFR cirrus will develop this evening into tonight and again Wednesday afternoon. Outlook: Dry and VFR through Friday. A storm system moves across the area Friday night into Saturday bringing the chance for rain and associated restrictions. && .GSP WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
