Hazardous weather is presently not anticipated through next weekend. && .SHORT TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/... Issued at 1210 AM MST Tue Dec 30 2025 For today and Wednesday, dry and mostly sunny conditions are forecast for the area as an upper ridge moves over the area. Temperatures today should warm into the 50s, with some upper 50s possible as long as some mid/upper level cloud cover doesn't move in through the day. Given the low variability in ensembles, I am going with the guidance consensus on the higher cloud cover moving in through the evening hours. There is the possibility for some brief critical fire weather conditions with the dry air and warming temperatures bringing relative humidity into the upper teens and low twenties. Given the clear skies and warm temperatures forecast, it wouldn't be surprising if humidity ends up in the mid teens at times. However, the critical fire weather conditions should be limited by the ridge moving over and weakening winds around 850- 700mb. With this, winds may be gusty around 10am-1pm, but be offset of the driest conditions between 1-4pm. Tomorrow looks to be similar, but with temperatures reaching the 60s with more warm air advecting into the area. The area may also see more consistent winds around 15-20 mph as a low pressure system shifts through the Plains while an upper trough swings through the Great Lakes region. The night time hours are forecast to see winds lower to around 5-10 mph as the inversion sets up in a weak pressure gradient. Temperatures should lower into the 20s each night. Wednesday night may have eastern counties in the area reach the teens depending on how much cold air can move in behind the low/cold front. && .LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/... Issued at 1210 AM MST Tue Dec 30 2025 For the long term period, the upper level ridge is forecast to set up over most of the Western United State and the Plains. This should keep the area dry through the extended period with guidance suggesting a less than 10% chance for precipitation. For most of the area, this is forecast to allow the area to continue the above average temperatures with highs generally in or around the 60s. Eastern parts of the area could see highs more in the 50s and 40s Friday and Saturday as the upper trough over the Great Lakes region brings a shortwave and associated low pressure system through the Plains. This could bring colder air over the aforementioned eastern parts of the area. To start the next week, cooler temperatures in the 50s and 40s are possible as an upper trough tries to move in from the west and dampen the upper ridge. If successful, the area may go back into more of a zonal pattern or in a bit of troughing. There's not currently any sign of a strong cold shot of air with this system, so that is why the forecast is currently for average or above average temperatures. There is a few ensemble members suggesting we might some precipitation during this time period, but most have the dry air holding. && .AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 406 AM MST Tue Dec 30 2025 VFR conditions are expected to prevail through the period for both KGLD and KMCK. Winds will primarily be from the northwest today. KMCK will see frequent gusts around 20 kts for most of the afternoon while KGLD's sustained winds will be around 15 kts.
