497 FXUS65 KGGW 281900 AFDGGW Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Glasgow MT 1200 PM MST Sat Feb 28 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... - Light snow will continue to diminish across the region with partial clearing of skies tonight. - Cold temperatures will linger tonight and early Sunday as an Arctic high pressure tracks east downstream of the region. - Look for moderating temperatures and dry weather over the next few days, through at least the middle of the week. && .DISCUSSION... WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: Radar observations are still congested with reflectivity returns late this morning, but will continue clearing up over the next several hours. Thus, any lingering flurries and light snow will come to an end across NE Montana. Cold temperatures will maintain a grip over the CWA tonight as Arctic high pressure continues to track east of the region. Most locations will see lows in the single digits and teens. The coldest readings will be in the river valleys where recent snowfall may enhance radiational cooling where partial clearing takes place. Upper ridging will begin to build over the Northern Rockies and Northern High Plains for the first half of the upcoming week, allowing temperatures to moderate into at least Wednesday. The large scale subsidence should also allow for mostly dry weather conditions for the next several days. Late next week as the ridge flattens and translates east, split flow will emerge over the western CONUS. Look for flat zonal flow over the region with high amplitude trough carved out in the 500mb height pattern to the south. Ensemble consensus begins to decline at these later time stages but early signs point to gradual lowering temperatures and increased precipitation chances at these ranges. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: NBM was used for the forecast period with the exception of some near term edit to pops to reflect continuing light intermittent snow. Otherwise ensembles continue to showcase simply exquisite consensus into the middle of next week reflecting above average confidence on a return to mild and likely dry conditions over the next several days. Beyond the midweek however, confidence declines, model solutions diverge, and details are less clear. But early indications suggest a gentle cool down in temperatures with increased precipitation chances at later time scales. && .AVIATION... LAST UPDATE: 1845Z FLIGHT CAT RANGE: MVFR-IFR, returning to VFR. DISCUSSION: Lingering light snow and stratus may continue to result in reduced visibility and ceilings at times. Expect snow to continue diminishing this afternoon with skies partially clearing overnight. This is expected to eventually lead to a return to VFR conditions over area terminals. Confidence is below average on precise timing but do overall expect by this evening into tonight to see a return to improved flight conditions. && .GGW WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
