172 FXUS64 KFWD 310625 AAA AFDFWD Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Fort Worth TX 1225 AM CST Wed Dec 31 2025 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - A warming trend will begin today and continue through at least early next week with well-above normal temperatures expected. - Precipitation is not expected for the next 7 days. && .SHORT TERM... (Today through Tonight) Issued at 1220 AM CST Wed Dec 31 2025 It's another chilly night across North and Central Texas with temperatures ranging from around 30 in our southeast to the low 40s in our west. The colder temps in the Brazos Valley area are due to surface high pressure over southeast Texas, with light southwesterly winds on the north side of the high keeping temperatures warmer in North Texas. Despite the winds, nearly clear skies and low dewpoints in the teens will allow lows to drop into the upper 20s to mid 30s by sunrise. After the chilly start, a warming trend will begin across the region today as a large upper level ridge builds across Mexico northward into western Canada, with flow aloft over Texas becoming more zonal in nature. Ample sunshine and the very dry airmass in place will allow highs to warm considerably by 30 to 40 degrees from this morning's lows and reach the 60s to near 70 by this afternoon. Tonight will see temps on the cool side once again but not as cold as it has been, with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s. && .LONG TERM... (Thursday through next Tuesday) Issued at 1220 AM CST Wed Dec 31 2025 These warmer temperatures will continue through the rest of this week into next week and be well-above normal for early January. Highs look to reach the mid 60s to mid 70s on Thursday and the upper 60s to low 80s on Friday, which is around 10 to 20 degrees above average for this time of year. A weak front moving through the region late Friday is anticipated to knock temperatures down somewhat for the weekend, but highs will still reach the 60s/70s. Even warmer weather is expected early next week with 70s to low 80s. As far as rain chances, no precipitation is expected for the next 7 days. Some guidance suggests a weak shortwave moving over the region late Thursday into early Friday could produce a few sprinkles or light showers in our East Texas counties, but with the low level moisture axis off to our east this currently seems very unlikely. Given the continued lack of rainfall and the last significant rain being in late November, fire weather concerns will be increasing on warmer windier days - with Friday and Monday currently appearing to have some elevated wildfire potential. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1220 AM CST Wed Dec 31 2025 VFR conditions will continue this TAF period with just a few cirrus clouds expected. South to southwest winds this morning will veer to westerly during the day, then back to southerly tonight, with speeds up to 8 knots. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS... Dallas-Ft.
