006 FXUS64 KEWX 310608 AFDEWX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX 1208 AM CST Wed Dec 31 2025 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - Cool and dry with temperatures in the mid 40s to low 50s around midnight for New Year's. - Warmer temperatures to start 2026 with dry weather continuing. && .SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Thursday night) Issued at 1124 PM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 Expect a pretty chilly start for those waking up early this morning with many waking up to overnight lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s. We warm up pretty quickly with many seeing highs in the mid to upper 60s with some spots touching 70. This is due in part to the cold airmass that has been over us the past couple days pushing off to the east and the combination of the return of southerly to southwesterly flow. For your New Years Eve forecast when the clock hits midnight and 2026 arrives, we expect temps to be cool with many already in the mid 40s to low 50s. Expect temps to continue decreasing overnight with many waking up to lows into the upper 30s to low 40s by sunrise on New Year's Day. We quickly warm up with the upper level ridge moving overhead allowing temps to really ramp up with many areas topping out in the mid to even upper 70s which is once again well above normal for this time of year. && .LONG TERM... (Friday through next Wednesday) Issued at 1124 PM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 For the long term expect this upper level ridge to become established over us leading to a return to well above normal temperatures yet again. With the additional enhancement of warm southwest flow due to a weak shortwave we could see many areas break there daily records as high temperatures soar into the low to even mid 80s. We then see the passage of a weak front thats in association with the aforementioned shortwave pass over the area Friday night or early Saturday that looks to do not much of anything except give us a change in wind direction and decrease temps just a bit. After this front moves through we see the return of mid level ridging allowing temperatures across the region to once again return to well above normal and even possibly into record territory, as well as helping to keep us dry throughout the remainder of the forecast period. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1144 PM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 Some high level cirrus will stream over the area overnight, but a mostly clear cloud picture is expected for most of the 24-30 hour TAF periods. Winds will be light as well. Will keep a few extra change lines in to track the gradual switch of winds from N/NW to S/SW. Most winds should remain at or below 7 knots. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
