907 FXUS64 KEWX 301139 AFDEWX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX 539 AM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - Freezing temperatures likely for some locations this morning and Wednesday morning, followed by a warming trend to start 2026. && .SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Wednesday night) Issued at 1054 PM CST Mon Dec 29 2025 Gusty wind has diminished as surface high pressure begins to move into the area from the northwest. Radar still shows light returns mainly across the far northern portion of the CWA where some very light rain/sleet/graupel have been reported. Given the very dry sub- cloud layer, do not expect more than some isolated pellets to occur over the next few hours before drier air makes its way over the area. Cloudy conditions early this morning will begin to clear a few hours before sunrise most notably over the northern Hill Country, I- 35 corridor and coastal plains. These locations, including the Austin metro, should see the coldest temperatures this morning in the low to mid 30s. Do expect some locations that have already seen a freeze this season to see a light freeze this morning. Further south where clouds last the longest, morning lows will be more in the low 40s. For the day today, surface high pressure will bring mostly clear skies and light wind to the area. Highs will be closer to seasonable values in the upper 50s to low 60s. Lows tonight into Wednesday morning will be chilly with more widespread temperatures in the low to mid 30s expected, mainly focused from the Hill Country east. Light freezes are expected, especially in low-lying areas. Southerly flow returns for the day Wednesday and an even warmer day ensues with highs back in the 60s for all of South Central Texas. && .LONG TERM... (Thursday through next Tuesday) Issued at 1054 PM CST Mon Dec 29 2025 Temperatures at midnight on the night of New Year's Eve will be crisp from the mid 40s to low 50s, decreasing to the upper 30s to low 40s by sunrise. A quick rise in temperatures will be seen on New Year's Day as temperatures increase into the low and mid 70s that afternoon under ridging aloft. Friday is forecast to be the warmest day of the week right now with highs in the 80s for most locations. Daily record highs will likely be challenged this day. A shortwave moves over the region and may bring a weak front towards the area Friday night or early Saturday, but right now it looks like that would do little for us except decrease our already warm temperatures a few degrees. Mid-level ridging will then be the predominant feature for the weekend keeping dry and unseasonably warm temperatures in the forecast. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 536 AM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 VFR skies are forecast through the next 30 hours. The first Few hours should have a persistent ceiling at 7-10 KFT at DRT with I-35 locations lifting to 10-12 KFT followed by clearing by around 15Z. North winds have since settled to below 10 knots for most areas, and a light mostly north breeze will continue for much of the day. DRT is the exception where the surface wind could switch around to south by midday. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
