768 FXUS66 KEKA 282235 AFDEKA AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Eureka CA 235 PM PST Sat Feb 28 2026 .SYNOPSIS...Scattered showers will dimish this evening just to return Sunday afternoon. Conditions will briefly warm and dry early next week with another round of generally light and beneficial rain midweek. && .DISCUSSION...Scattered showers with a few embedded thunderstorms have crossed the area all through the day Saturday. Rainfall has generally been light with 0.05 to 0.2 inches of rain across the northern half of the area. Locally higher amounts of up to 0.3 inches have occurred in thunderstorms, mostly in Trinity County. Remaining showers will quickly dissipate this evening with nothing more than light, isolated drizzle overnight. A weak, cutoff low crossing the area Sunday will bring another round of showers. Once again, light rain is most likely across the northern half of the area, generally less than 0.3 inches. There is a small chance (about 35%) of some higher elevation locations seeing over 0.3 inches. Thunderstorms are less likely tomorrow but will remain possible over the far eastern interior (about 15% chance). Very weak high pressure will build over the area Monday and Tuesday. This will help skies clear and conditions slightly warm. That said, recent rain will most likely promote interior valley fog each night with a marine layer close to shore. There is high confidence that another short wave will cross the area around mid next week. This shortwave will once again bring showers focused on the north coast with little chance (20%) of even wetting rain for the southern half of the area. For the northern half, there is less than a 10% chance of rainfall over 1 inch. Colder drier weather with some moderately strong north wind will build behind the shortwave to close next week. /JHW && .AVIATION...MVFR to VFR conditions could be possible through the day as clouds stream over the area. Scattered showers are also possible, mostly for northern Mendocino, Trinity, Humboldt and Del Norte counties. Some showers have a potential to develop into thunderstorms. Showers will diminish into tonight with lower ceilings possible for the region overnight. && .MARINE...A mid period northwest swell continues to diminish. A weak cold front moves through the area today, bringing a quick burst of northwesterly winds. Even the high end models are showing gusts peaking at 20 to 25 kts. Some locally gustier winds are possible around the strongest showers, along with an isolated thunderstorm. After this passage, winds will diminish again into Sunday. Winds and seas are likely to remain mild through at least Wednesday of next week before northerlies build in as a fairly weak thermal trof set up looks to form over the waters.
