Issued at 328 PM CST Mon Dec 29 2025 The erosion of our latest cold air mass will begin early tomorrow morning as surface winds become westerly downslope component. The fairly light winds, clear sky, and low dewpoints in the upper single digits (degF) to lower teens will allow temperatures to fall into the lower to mid teens most areas, especially farther west and in valleys. Once westerly winds pick up toward daybreak, we will likely see a rather robust boost in temperature by late morning through the 40s in the 11 AM to Noon time frame, ultimately topping out in the mid 50s. Surface winds will remain fairly light, otherwise we would see even warmer temperatures, but regardless, it will be quite the pleasant late December day. The general theme of above normal temperatures and dry conditions (no precipitation) will continue through the week. That being said, an amplification of the jet stream is likely with a ridge building across the western CONUS and a downstream trough across the eastern half of the CONUS. This will keep western Kansas in northwest flow and also keep the core of any arctic air well displaced from the Central Plains, including southwest Kansas, through the week. There will be a minor cold front or two pushing across Kansas in this pattern, but impacts on sensible weather for western Kansas will be minimal. The lack of an appreciable MSLP gradient through much of the week will lead to mainly light winds 15 mph or less. The idea of a longwave ridge out west and a trough in the east is likely to continue through the end of the 7-day period, if not longer, which does not favor widespread precipitation. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z WEDNESDAY/...
