Issued at 1131 AM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 - Quiet weather and above normal temperatures can be expected with highs in the 60s and 70s for the better part of the next week. && .SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Wednesday night) Issued at 1131 AM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 Quiet and uneventful weather is forecast for this afternoon through Wednesday night. The slow warm up will continue with highs in the mid to upper 50s today and then low 60s tomorrow. Weak flow aloft and at the surface will lead to light winds on both days as well. Some increased moisture may lead to thin high level clouds on Wednesday afternoon, but outside of that, sunny and warm conditions are expected to end 2025. Muscha && .LONG TERM... (Thursday through next Monday) Issued at 1131 AM CST Tue Dec 30 2025 Upper level ridging is forecast across the western/central US whereas troughing should be in place across the east late this week. With the ridge overhead, temperatures will almost certainly remain above average to start the New Year of 2026. The eastern combined Panhandles may be closer to average on New Years Day however, as a fairly unnoticeable backdoor cold front moves in during the morning and keeps temperatures in the lower 60s to mid 50s. The west to southwest flow in the mid to upper levels is forecast to usher in plentiful moisture on Thursday, leading to overcast skies throughout the day. The latest 30/12z forecast data suggests a weak shortwave embedded in the flow may provide some lift to generate rain showers on Thursday. The main caveat is that all of the moisture is located in the mid to upper levels and the lower levels (including at the surface) are very dry. Current expectation is that some sprinkles may occur, but have refrained from introducing any mentions to the forecast since it is still 3 days out. The potential for any accumulating precipitation remains below 5 percent. Broad ridging should remain in place this weekend into early next week across much of the country, outside of the northeast and northwest. This pattern will keep the trend of above average temperatures in place for the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles. The nice thing about this pattern, is that there are not any days that indicate a strong fire weather signal as winds will be mainly light, but there could be a few areas that are breezy as surface lows develop at times during this period.
